The second installment of project: Saturday Street Sessions took me to the inner west suburb of Newtown. Home to the University of Sydney, Newtown is a melting pot of students, bikers, buskers, goths, punks and other social and sexual subcultures that congregate along the main drag of King Street. Live music venues, ethnic restaurants and second hand clothes and furniture stores abound, while backstreets are multi-coloured with graffiti and posters.
Needless to say, armed with a camera on the streets of Newtown I was spoilt for choice. Many of the people whom I stopped were very friendly and seemed to take it as a compliment that I wanted to shoot them, and nearby there was always an interesting backdrop to complete the picture.
